Ziadeh discusses the emergence of new Syrian opposition leaders since the outbreak of the Syrian uprising. He distinguishes between Syria and Egypt in that the Egyptian revolution was largely orchestrated by movements such as April 6, and Kefaya who had already been in existence for several years. Syria on the other hand, had no grass-roots, opposition infrastructure to speak of prior to the outbreak of its revolution.
