Ben Simpfendorfer is Managing Director of Silk Road Associates, a strategy consultancy based in Hong Kong. His firm works with multinationals and regional firms on developing business strategies for the Silk Road markets, as well as supporting financial investors looking to allocate funds and manage risks in the region. Ben was the former chief China Economist for RBS and senior China Economist for JPMorgan. He is also the author of The New Silk Road, published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2009. Ben speaks Arabic, Cantonese, and Mandarin. He has lived in Hong Kong for over a decade, but started his career in the Middle East, living in Beirut and Damascus. He writes a regular column for FT.com’s Beyond BRICs and is a member of CNN's Globex20. He is an adjunct lecturer at Fudan University’s Business School in Shanghai and advisor to the China Energy Fund.
